William K.L. Dickson | Biografie

Skotský fotograf a vynálezce byl zaměstnancem a spolupracovníkem Thomase A. Edisona. V roce 1891 předvedl převratný vynález Edisonových laboratoří - kinetoskop. Již o tři roky později natočil první filmové dokumenty pro filmovou společnost "Black Maria" založenou T.A. Edisonem. Přestože dokumenty byly velice krátké, mnohdy i jen několik desítek vteřin a herci se museli pohybovat pouze před statickou kamerou, jedná se o první prokazatelné filmové záběry vůbec. William Dickson v té době spolupracoval na vynálezu filmového materiálu a staral se o režii (kameraman byl převážně William Heise). O několik let později se Dickson odtrhne od Edisona a spoluzakládá konkurenční filmové studio "American Mutoscope and Biograph Company.
