Starý rančer Ike Clanton se se svojí bandou pokouší za každou cenu ovládnout arizonské město Tombstone a jeho okolí. Tento záměr před nikým příliš netají, všechny nepohodlné přitom rychle a neúprosně odstraňuje z cesty. Proti němu stojí uznávaný šerif Wyatt Earp, jenž se marně a téměř osamoceně pokouší zastavit rozpoutané bezpráví a násilí. Spolehnout se přitom příliš nemůže na zbabělé zástupce ve vedení města, ani na úplatného soudce Hermana Spicera. Ve chvíli, kdy hrozí, že by mohl ztratit svůj vliv, se Clanton pokusí zasáhnout Wyatta na tom nejcitlivějším místě. Proto chce zákeřně zabít jeho bratry. Šerif Wyatt Earp se odhodlá složitou situaci řešit po svém. Pomoc proti přesile zločinců mu přitom nabídne známý pistolník, věčný opilec a hazardní hráč Doc Holliday... (oficiální text distributora)
