Po smrti svého manžela se matka vrací ke svým bohatým rodičům i se svými čtyřmi dětmi. Aby získala zpět sympatie i i jmění svého umírajícího otce, který nesouhlasil s její svatbou, ukrývá děti v podkroví a zapře před ním jejich existenci. Starší Cathy a Chris a malá dvojčata Carrie a Cory žijí v podkroví navštěvovány pouze despotickou babičkou a matkou, která se objevuje čím dál tím míň a přestává mít o děti jakýkoli zájem. Sourozenci pomalu slábnou a Cathy zjistí, že se je jejich matka a babička pokoušejí otrávit. Po smrti Coryho přísahá Cathy matce pomstu.
Film byl natočen podle knihy populární spisovatelky Virginie C. Andrewsové. Kniha Květiny v podkroví se dočkala i několika pokračování. (Saara)
