Když Dr. Phibs vypustil ze svých žil krev a ulehl do rakve ke své ženě (Ohavný Dr. Phibes), zdálo se, že zaklapnutím víka rakve vše končí. Avšak po třech letech vstoupily planety do konjunkce, kdy jednou za 2000 let vyvěrá v podzemí faraónovy hrobky tajemná Řeka života. Hrobka se otvírá, krev teče zpět do žil a Dr. Phibes ožívá, aby v dalekém Egyptě přivedl svou milovanou ženu zpět k životu. Starobylý papyrus ale zatím získal bohatý archeolog Biederbeck (Robert Quarry), který má své vlastní důvody pro nalezení Řeky života. Oba muži míří do Egypta, kde se odehraje poslední boj.
