Paul se narodil 29. dubna 1969 v Chicagu a vystudoval Bowdoin College, kde získal diplom z angličtiny. Svou hereckou kariéru započal v divadle, ve spolku New Crime Productions, kterou založil herec John Cusack, později také spolupracoval se spolkem Steppenwolf Theatre Company. V roce 1990 přišel jeho filmový debut ve filmu The Grifters (Švindlíři), kde si zahrál po boku Angeliny Houston a Johna Cusacka. Další filmovou roli obsadil až v roce 1997 ve filmu Peoria… (více)
