Terence Alan Patrick Sean „Spike“ Milligan se narodil v Ahmed Nagaru v Indii. Jeho otec, původem Irčan, kapitán Leo Alphonso Milligan sloužil v Britské indické armádě. Spike prožil dětsví v Indii. Před válkou hrával jako trumpetista s jazzovou skupinou. Během 2. Světové války, kdy již žil v Anglii, sloužil v Britské armádě u Královského dělostřelectva.
