Tisíc let před narozením Krista, Bůh potrestal Izraelity uvrhnutím jejich národa pod nadvládu a tyranii Filištínů. Podle věštby andělů mohl jen jediný člověk osvobodit izraelitský lid - syn Manoaha z města Zorah. Skutečně, dosud bezdětnému pár se brzy narodil chlapec, který dostal jméno Samson. Hoch dospěl v silného muže. I přiblíživ se čas jeho osudu, odešel Samson z rodného města do země Filištínů, aby poznal svět a své nepřátele. Zamiloval se tu ale do urozené Semadar a po vykonání hrdinského skutku požádal o její ruku. Semadar však jeho přízeň nevyslyšela. Zhrzená Delilah, sestra Semadar, která se do krásného urostlého Samsona mezitím zamilovala, přísahala mladému muži za jeho nevědomou zradu pomstu. Samson se navrátil ke svému lidu a počal oslabovat Filištínce. Čím byla jeho síla větší, tím byla porážka soupeřů nevyhnutelnější. S kouzelnou silou darovanou Bohy byl Samson zcela neporazitelný. Nešťastná Delilah se proto rozhodla lstí vylákat ze Samsona tajemství jeho síly a předat ji svému lidu. (dopitak)
