Inspektor Jack Cates zasahuje u benzinové pumpy, přičemž dojde k zastřelení jednoho muže a nakonec k výbuchu celé čerpací stanice. Musí se pak zodpovídat před komisí a hrozí mu vězení. Pravda může vyjít na povrch, pokud se mu podaří najít drogového bosse Eismana, a tak se okamžitě pouští do pátrání. Navštíví ve vězení Reggieho, který byl s Eismanem zapleten, a snaží se ho přesvědčit ke spolupráci. Marně.
