Čtyři astronauti v hlubokém vesmíru likvidují planety nevhodné k osídlení v hvězdném systému. Kromě vychytralého ufona si musí poradit s porouchaným počítačovým programem a "chytrou bombou", která sama sebe považuje za Pána Boha. V začátku své tvorby se režisér John Carpenter vydal do relativně blízké budoucnosti, tedy do poloviny jednadvacátého století, kdy lidský druh začal kolonizovat celý široký vesmír. Dark Star je futuristická vesmírná loď vyzbrojená speciálními bombami určenými ke zničení planet nevhodných k osídlení člověkem. Jednoho dne se bomba, která má být vypuštěna na planetu porouchá, a její "vyšší mysl" se odmítne odpoutat od lodi. Hrozí, že zničí vesmírnou loď i s bizarní posádkou. (HBO Europe)
