Matt Rutledge je na obchodní cestě v Lousianě. Rozhodne se, že se ubytuje ve starém domě, který funguje jako pension a který vlastní dvě sestry, Charlotte a mladší ze sester Lucy. Charlotte střídavě je a není zamilována do místního šerifa Cleve Douceta, zatímco svůdnou Lucy přitahuje Matt. Když se Lucy a Matt do sebe zamilují, je Matt varován, že Charlotte je vražednice.
