Don Alonso čte knihy o rytířství, ale postupem času ztrácí svůj zdravý rozum a začne věřit, že je rytíř jménem Don Quijote de La Mancha. Se svým sluhou Sancho Panzou se rozhodne jít vstříc imaginárnímu dobrodružství. Než opustí rodnou ves, potká krásnou služku, kterou pojmenuje Dulcinea, a zvolí si ji za dámu svého srdce. Jeho prvním dobrodružstvím je boj s větrnými mlýny. V hospodě je pak hospodským pasován na rytíře, poté se utká s kněžími a také se dvěma stády ovcí, které považuje za nepřátelská vojska. Alonso prožívá další a další dobrodružství, setkává se i s falešnou Dulcineou a nakonec svede boj s rytířem Bílé luny, kterému podlehne a musí slíbit, že se vzdá potulného rytířství. (TV Nova)
