Lewis je geniální kluk z dětského domova se zálibou v šikovných technických vymoženostech. Během jedné schůzky s potencionálními adoptivními rodiči jim chce předvést jeden ze svých přístrojů. Ten se ale rozbije a rodiče si Lewise nakonec nevezmou. Proto se rozhodne sestrojit přístroj pro vybavování vzpomínek, aby ze své paměti dostal podobu své maminky a mohl konečně zjistit, jak vypadala, což by mu pomohlo ji najít. Jeho nezdolné hledání jej jednoho dne zavede na místo, které by si nedokázal představit ani v nejdivočejších snech - do budoucnosti, kde už termín "nemožné" dávno zmizel ze slovníku. Když se Lewis setká s podivným cizincem jménem Wilbur Robinson, čeká jej nejen fantastická cesta časoprostorem, ale také setkání s rodinou Robinsonových. (TV Nova)
