Malý Tom vyrůstá na farmě svých rodičů v kalifornském Salinas. Jeho nejlepším kamarádem je jejich kovboj Billy Buck, díky němuž může kluky ve třídě oslňovat dobrodružnými historkami, jimž většinou stejně nikdo nevěří. Ještě větším vypravěčem je ale Tomův dědeček, na jehož stále se opakující zážitky s indiány už začínají být všichni v rodině alergičtí. Jednoho dne dostane Tom dárek, který ho má naučit zodpovědnosti - malého poníka. (dopitak)
