Vše nechali za sebou a uprchli, aby nalezli to jediné, po čem celý život skutečně toužili. Zemi dost velkou pro jejich sny... V Irsku roku 1892 se rolník Joseph Donelly (T. Cruise) vydává zabít bohatého statkáře Christieho kvůli bídě, v níž se on i desítky dalších ocitli jeho přičiněním. Právě v Christieho sídle se setkává s jeho vzpurnou dcerou Shannon (N. Kidmanová), otrávenou svazujícími společenskými konvencemi. Tyto rozdílné povahy spojí dohromady stejný sen po nové půdě, která se má rozdávat zájemcům v americké Oklahomě. Společně prchají za oceán, ale brzy po připlutí k americkým břehům se svými plány narazí a jsou nuceni přežívat v nuzných podmínkách bostonské chudinské čtvrti. Odkázáni jeden na druhého překonávají spoustu zkoušek, ale svého snu se nevzdávají… (Česká televize)
