Rachel se narodila 25.srpna 1969 v Anglii. S rodiči žila ve městě Swindon, ale když jí byl jeden rok tak se odstěhovali do Londýna, kde poté vyrůstala. Promovala na Sheffieldské Univerzitě. V počátcích své kariéry pracovala střídavě v televizi, u filmu a také u divadla. Zlom pro ni představovala role ve filmu LAGAAN-TENKRÁT V INDII, za níž byla nominována na cenu Popular Award a díky níž začala dostávat také nabídky z Ameriky.
