Desetiletý Oscar pobývá v nemocnici. Ani lékaři ani rodiče se mu neodvažují povědět pravdu o vážnosti jeho nemoci. Jenom Rose, do růžového oděná dodavatelka pizzy, je k Oscarovi upřímná. Ačkoliv má dost svých problémů a rozhodně se nechce zabavovat malým umírajícím klučinou, navrhne tomuto holohlavému holomkovi následující hru: každý vánoční den je podle legendy počítán jako deset let.
