V roce 1984 byli Amanda a Dawson spolužáci na střední škole. Pocházeli z odlišných sociálních poměrů, navzdory tomu mezi nimi vznikla přímo osudová láska. Měšťacká společnost jim jí nedopřála. Zklamaná Amanda odešla studovat na vysokou školu a Dawsona po tragické autonehodě zavřeli do vězení. Neviděli se celé čtvrtstoletí, dokud se nesetkali na pohřbu společného přítele Tucka, který jim poskytl útočiště v době, kdy museli svou lásku tajit. Ani jeden z nich nežil život, jaký si vysnil ... a ani jeden z nich nezapomněl na první lásku, která je navždy změnila. Všechny krásné i bolestivé vzpomínky najednou ožijí a bývalí milenci mají před sebou společný víkend. Příležitost změnit dosavadní život je na dosah ruky, ale ... je to ještě možné?
