Bostonská učitelka dějepisu Gail Hartmanová (Meryl Streepová) se ve volném čase věnuje veslování. Každý rok odjíždí s manželem Tomem a synkem Roarkem na tradiční výlet na divokou řeku poblíž kanadské hranice, kde kdysi pracovala jako průvodkyně. Hned na začátku plavby se rodina seznámí se sympatickým Wadem (Kevin Bacon) a jeho kamarádem Terrym (John C. Reilly), kteří mají stejnou cestu. Malý Roarke spatří ve Wadeovi správný chlapácký vzor místo věčně upracovaného otce. Jenže brzy se ukáže, že oba kumpáni jsou všeho schopní kriminálníci, kteří si plavbu na řece vybrali jako způsob útěku po provedené loupeži. A jelikož podcenili divokost řeky, budou potřebovat Gailinu pomoc… (Česká televize)
