Matthew sa narodil 9. marca 1980 v Las Vegas v tichom susedstve parku Boba Baskina. Jeho otec John Gubler je právnik a matka Marilyn Kelch Gubler je predsedkyňou republikánskej strany a rančerkou. Matt študoval na strednej škole umenie a neskôr medzinárodné vzťahy a herectvo v Las Vegas. Od roku 1998 študoval na University of California v Santa Cruz. - Matthew Gray Gubler si při natáčení filmu 500 dní se Summer (2009) zranil koleno. Zranění si vyžádalo 3 operace a dlouhou rekonvalescenci s berlemi. Scenáristé to zapracovali do děje seriálu (průstřel kolene v epizodě Vyděrač, 2009), proto skoro celou 5. sérii Dr. Spencer Reid chodí o berlích. (Pitbull16)
