Jeskynní malby z Horseshoe Canyonu v Utahu jsou prvním i posledním tónem skladby, která diváka provede světem tak, jak ho vidí Godfrey Reggio. Majestátní věkovitost stalních útesů, zdánlivá nehybnost pouště i věčná dynamika mořských vln sugerují prapůvodní čistotu života, do níž náhle, po staletích pozvolného, takřka neměřitelného vývoje, vstupuje člověk, měnící svou energií podobu světa i rytmus plynutí času. Přináší technický pokrok, zrychluje, propadá se do anonymity, přivádí na svět úžasné vynálezy i ničivé prostředky nepředstavitelné síly, zamořuje životní prostředí a vede války. Reggio beze slov, jen prostřednictvím fascinujících obrazů a za doprovodu úchvatně minimalistické hudby Philipa Glasse poprvé komentuje vztah přirody a člověka, resp. destruktivní sílu lidského působení na naši planetu.
