„Jasně, jsem mladá a krásná, ale nenávidět mě nemusíte.“ Mary Sean Young se narodila 20. listopadu 1959 v Kentucky jako dcera scénáristky, novinářky a PR odbornice Lee Guthrie a Donalda Younga, též novináře a televizního produkčního. Střední školu začala navštěvovat v Cleveland Heights v Ohio, ale přestoupila a odmaturovala na Interlochen Arts Academy v Michiganu.
