Burákový sokol, moderní dobrodružný příběh ve stylu Marka Twaina, sleduje Zacka (Zack Gottsagen), citlivého mladíka s Downovým syndromem, který uteče z domova s pečovatelskou službou, aby si splnil svůj sen a stal se profesionálním zápasníkem. Touží trénovat na zápasnické škole, kterou vede jeho idol The Salt Water Redneck (Thomas Haden Church). Zvláštní souhrou okolností se jeho cesty zkříží s Tylerem (Shia LaBeouf), místním výtržníkem a vyhnancem na útěku, který se stane Zakovým trenérem a spojencem. Společně cestují přes deltu řeky, vyhýbají se autoritám, pijí whisky, hledají Boha a loví ryby.
