Šmoulové spokojené žijí ve své vesničce. Vše připravují na tajnou oslavu narozenin Šmoulinky. Tu v tento den každoročně probouzí noční můra, protože má obavy ze svého pravého původu. Kdysi ji totiž stvořil zlý čaroděj Gargamel (Hank Azaria), který s její pomocí chtěl všechny Šmouly pochytat. Taťka Šmoula to ale tehdy jen tak nenechal, Šmoulinku zachránil a udělal z ní pomocí kouzla plnohodnotnou členku své láskyplné rodiny. Gargamel se ale lehce nevzdává a od svého plánu nechce upustit. Stvoří proto další dva malé nezbedy, takzvané Neplechy, Vexy a Hakuse. Chce, aby unesli Šmoulinku z vesnice do světa lidí, kde zrovna čaroděj sklízí úspěchy se svou kouzelnickou show v Paříži. Jakmile získá Šmoulinku, má v plánu donutit ji prozradit složení lektvaru, kterým z ní kdysi Taťka Šmoula udělal modrou bytost. Pomocí lektvaru pak chce Neplechy proměnit v modré a z nich pak čerpat šmoulí esenci, díky které ovládne celý svět… (TV Prima)
