Komunikace Spojených států se Sovětským svazem je vzhledem k trvající studené válce složitá a nerost, který USA pro svůj nový obranný systém nutně potřebují, se těží jen a pouze v SSSR. Zjištění, že byl roku 1912 převážen na Titaniku, poněkud kalí skutečnost, že slavná dopravní loď kotví několik kilometrů pod mořskou hladinou. A protože s nápadem dostat monumentální plavidlo zpět nahoru nepřijdou jen Američané, stává se komplikovaná operace ke všemu otázkou času. Adaptace i u nás populární knihy Clivea Cusslera nabízí dobrodružný sci-fi příběh, který dalece předcházel objevu, že na dvě části rozlomený Titanic by těžko někdo vyzvedl stejně, jako se o to pokoušejí hrdinové snímku. Ve filmu s atraktivním námětem si navíc zahráli výborní herci jako Jason Robards (Tenkrát na Západě, Všichni prezidentovi muži) nebo Alec Guinness (Lawrence z Arábie, Hvězdné války). (Filmhouse)
