Z indonéské Surabaji vypluje loď naftařské společnosti Petrox, která míří k malému ostrůvku, slibujícímu nová bohatá ložiska ropy. Na palubu však pronikne černý pasažér, paleontolog Jack Prescott, který je přesvědčen, že na ostrůvku čeká na své objevení dosud neznámý živočišný druh. Cestou přibude na palubu také krásná trosečnice Dwan. Ta je po přistání u břehů ostrůvku unesena z lodi domorodci, kteří ji chtějí obětovat Kongovi, obrovské opici žijící za vysokou hradbou. Je zorganizována záchranná výprava, která se vydá do tajuplné části ostrova obývané podivnými tvory. Dívka je zachráněna, ale protože naděje naftařského bosse Wilsona se ukázaly jako liché, rozhodne se ziskuchtivý naftař King Konga ulovit a vydělat aspoň na něm, jako na ojedinělé atrakci. Přes varování Prescotta je gigantický op uspán a převezen do New Yorku. Při okázalé show se však rozběsní, utrhne se z řetězů, jimiž je spoután, zmocní se Dwan a prchá. Ničí při útěku vše, co mu přijde do cesty, aby nakonec skončil na střeše mrakodrapu v domnění, že dívku chrání. (TV Nova)
