Seržanti Chris Lorenzo (Rob Estes) a Rita Lee Manceová (Mitzi Kapture) z policajného oddelenia v Palm Beach tvoria zohratý detektívny tím. Funguje medzi nimi zvláštna chémia porozumenia aj bez slov, ba dokonca obaja majú prezývku Sam. Rita je priateľská, obetavá a stará sa o svojho partnera aj nad rámec služobného vzťahu. Profesionálne zladené duo rieši najvážnejšie prípady vrážd v Palm Beach. Pri prenasledovaní tých, ktorí páchajú zločiny, pretože si myslia, že stoja nad zákonom, ich nič nezastaví. V prvej epizóde Chris a Rita vyšetrujú smrť modelky, ktorú zabili v jej nájomnom byte. Hlavným podozrivým je jej manžel Gator Ramsey, ktorý sa s ňou už dávnejšie plánoval rozviesť. Policajné duo odhalí, že s jej smrťou môže mať niečo spoločné starý prípad znásilnenia. Keď však chcú navštíviť bývalého policajta, ktorý by im mohol vniesť svetlo do starého prípadu, nájdu ho v kancelárii mŕtveho práve spáchal samovraždu...
Detektívnu dvojicu Lorenzo-Manzeová (1991-1995) vystriedalo v roku 1996, uprostred piatej série, nové duo seržantov Tom Ryan (Chris Potter) a Cassandra Cassy St. Johnová (Janet Gunn), ktorí pôsobili až do konca nakrúcania seriálu (1995-1999). Nová policajná dvojica opäť účinne znepríjemňuje existenciu živlov z podsvetia Palm Beach. Pikantné je však súkromie postáv - Cassy a Tom sú bývalí manželia, ktorí sa po vzájomnej dohode pokojne rozviedli, keď im zväzok nevyšiel. Dnes sú opäť partnermi, hoci tentoraz len v práci. Ale o to lepšie si ľudsky aj profesionálne rozumejú.
