Doktorka Temperance Brennanová je vysoce kvalifikovaná forenzní antropoložka, která pracuje v Jeffersonově institutu a kromě toho píše romány. Když selžou standardní metody identifikace těla, když jsou ostatky tak silně rozložené, spálené nebo zničené, že to kriminalisté vzdají, orgány činné v trestním řízení povolávají Brennanovou a spoléhají na její nadpřirozenou schopnost číst stopy zanechané v kostech oběti. Většina orgánů činných v trestním řízení si nedokáže poradit s inteligencí Brennanové, její touhou po pravdě ani s tím, jak se bezhlavě vrhá do každého vyšetřování. Zvláštní agent FBI Seeley Booth je výjimkou. Bývalý armádní ostřelovač Booth nedůvěřuje vědě a vědcům, „šilhavcům“, jak jim říká, kteří se, když jde o řešení zločinů, zabývají fyzickými důkazy. Ale ani on nemůže popřít, že kombinace jeho sociální inteligence a vědeckého důvtipu Brennanové z nich dělá skvělý tým. (Disney+)
